In this article learn how to make $2000+ a month using YouTube for a coaching business or consulting business.
If you have been looking for a way to promote your coaching or consulting business, you definitely want to start utilizing YouTube! More than 500 million hours of video are watched on YouTube each day! People are flocking to YouTube for everything from learning how to fix something to getting the latest household hack.
I have multiple YouTube channels, and on one of them, I share my passion for spirituality and wellness. On this channel, I share meditations and I coach people on how to bring more peace and calm into their lives. My goal is not to sell anyone anything, but rather to help and share.
Using YouTube for a Coaching Business
The reason I love using YouTube for my coaching business is because it allows people to see me, hear me and build rapport with me without me having to work tirelessly answering inquiry phone calls. Most of the time, people have watched my videos over a period of time, and I’ve built a sense of trust with them.
At some point, they want to find out more about what I have to offer, and they follow links to my site to check out products, services and articles.
I’m always amazed that the right people seem to find me and connect with me. It makes sense in a way though. They have taken the time to make sure I feel like a fit to them through the videos!
My Tips for Using YouTube for a Coaching Business
When I first started using YouTube, I didn’t know much about making videos and what would work. But over time, I started to notice that certain things helped my traffic numbers increase. Here are a few of my top tips if you are planning on using YouTube for a coaching business or any business for that matter!
- Be clear about what you do- have a specific niche and tailor your videos to that audience
- Speak in their language- know your audience and what words they use and use them in your videos
- Give away free info- teach something in your video to build trust with your viewers.
- Clear Thumbnail- make sure to take a photo and then place bold text inside the photo. The text should be clear and mention what they will learn in the video.
- Keywords- use keywords and phrases for things your viewers are struggling with, needing to fix, or wanting to learn. Think about what they will type in to get help on YouTube.
- Links to your website, landing pages, and other videos- make sure to use the more info section to link to your website, landing page, videos and recommended products. Funnel viewers to your site and have them sign up for your emails.
- Suggest or Give Direction- tells your viewers to subscribe, comment, ask questions, etc.
- Interact- Take the time to interact with your viewers if they do comment. Try to answer as many questions as possible. Most of my coaching clients come from me taking the time to answer questions.
Ways to Indirectly Make Money From YouTube for a Coaching Business
There are also more passive income streams when using YouTube for a coaching business. Passive income means you set something in place and then it generates income for you while you sleep. This is not to say that there is a lot of work to be done ahead of time. You will want to build up content and also network with related companies over a period of time. Then you can put some of these passive income ideas into place.
- Join YouTube’s Ad Program- as of this writing, you need to have at least 1000 subscribers before you can turn the ads on your YouTube channel. So for now, focus on the content and engaging with visitors. Give them great information that makes them want to subscribe.
- Sponsorships- Think about the companies your viewers most engage with and reach out to them to represent them in a video. They will pay you a fee to be represented.
- Sell Product or Courses- direct viewers to your site/landing page with products or a course. It may take some time to build a course, but once it’s done and in place, you can keep directing people to the course.
- Funnel viewers to your website where you have a booking button. Encourage them to book a free mini session with you to ask questions, and then if things feel like a fit, schedule a session or a package of sessions with them. I currently make over $2000 a month just from people who book coaching sessions with me each month. And many of these clients are repeat clients, so once they find you, you can continue working with them over time.
- Sign up for Patreon- have people pay a membership fee to support your YouTube efforts.
- Affiliate Links- Post affiliate links in the description below your video to point people to products or services you highly recommend. You earn a commission when they buy from these links. Affiliate links is one of my favorite ways of making extra side income each month with my coaching business. If you are new to affiliate linking, head over to the following articles:

Top Tips for Getting More Traffic on YouTube
If you are wanting more traffic from your YouTube visitors, here are a few tips:
- Be Consistent- display how often you will post videos on your YouTube header. And try to post a new video at least once a week. Posting a few times a week will keep your viewers coming back which means more traffic.
- Answer or Reply to Comments and Questions- when you answer questions on your YouTube feed, it’s more likely that people will come back to you because they see you as an expert.
- Ask for Action- encourage viewers to go visit your site, send you an email, subscribe to your channel, etc
- Give Away Tips to Gain Their Trust- think of creative ways you can engage your audience and give away free tips to get them to come back for more.
- Put Readable Words on your Thumbnail Picture- It’s more likely someone will click on your thumbnail after doing a search in YouTube if you have a clear engaging photo along with VERY READABLE TEXT!
Equipment Needed for YouTube
You don’t need high end equipment to get started on YouTube. If you have a smartphone with a photo and video feature, you are halfway home! Make sure to set up your phone with a tripod or video equipment on a tripod or sturdy surface. Also, be aware of your background and keep it simple and clean.
If you teach something in a specific niche, obviously have props in the background that make sense. For example, if you do makeup tutorials, display your makeup set-up. If you are coaching people in how to have a better golf swing, show video of poor posture and correct posture. Before and after shots as well as step by step videos do very well on YouTube. Think of “show and tell” from when you were in school. People want to see you in action, so don’t be afraid to show steps and be yourself.
You will also need a computer and video editing software to edit and clip together your videos. I use a very simple program called My Movie Maker that came with my PC.
At some point, you may also want to invest in a set of LED video lights as well as a lapel microphone to provide higher quality videos.
