Start with solving a problem for one person
Before you put together a course or start selling products, you have to know what people NEED. The best way to find out what someone needs is by listening to them.
If you pay attention to what one person is struggling with, and you genuinely figure out a way to help them, then you’ve got a potential coaching business.

The more urgent the problem is to them, the more willing they are to pay to have it solved.
What expertise do you have to help solve their urgent problem?
Think about what you already do naturally. Sometimes it’s hard to think of our natural abilities as expertise, but most likely, you are downplaying some natural ability you already possess. And if you are overlooking this ability, you are probably not charging for it.
If you really want to make money coaching online, then it’s time to start seeing your value and worth. There are tough things you have experienced in life and you made it through alive! This is valuable information that can be shared and in turn, help you make money coaching online.
Pay attention to what people come to you for and keep a list or journal of these topics. With time, you will see a pattern or biggest struggle start to emerge. Maybe you have already been through what they are going through, so they are coming to you for support or suggestions. Use your journal to list out your top solutions and steps to help them overcome their challenge. Suddenly, you’ve got a program developing!

Start with One-On-One Coaching
I’ve personally coached hundreds of people in various topics related to the many businesses I’ve owned, and it helped me get to know my customers on a whole other level.
When you coach people one-on-one, you develop a deep relationship with your clients. This connection is built on trust, and coaching clients are more likely to keep coming back to you if they feel like you understand their pain points. Scale up to programs and offers to make money coaching online
One of my favorite ways to make money coaching online is by building courses in Teachable. Their platform is so easy to use, and you can get started for very little cost. They even host free events to help you build your course the right way from the start.
To build a course, you will need to do some one-on-one coaching first to fully understand what your clients need. As you serve more people, you will begin to see patterns. It’s important to make note of what people are repeating so you can create a program tailored directly to them.
You can put all of your expertise into an online course that you can turn into a 24/7 solution for your coaching clients. Clients are more likely to buy the course from you because you have proven that you can solve their problems. The trust is already there, and they want to dive deeper by using your program or offer.
Create group programs to make money coaching online
Some of my most favorite coaching experiences have been meeting with clients in group programs. I feel like clients make the fastest progress when they are surrounded with people going through the same challenges. They are able to ask questions in a group setting and hear answers directly related to their issue. I’ve benefited personally from being in group coaching programs because others ask questions I would not have thought to ask for myself.
As a coach, I’ve done both in-person groups and online platforms like Zoom to host group programs. I don’t feel like one is better than the other; they are both equally valuable.
There’s just something about coming together in a community in a safe way and everyone supporting one another through a challenge that is special and memorable.
I have made long lasting friends in group programs I joined. And many of my long term clients loved being a part of my group programs. Again, it’s another way of learning more about your clients and discovering how people evolve and grow.
Why you should launch your business with online coaching
You might be hesitating to launch your coaching business, but I suggest you actually start a business by coaching. The reason is, if you start a coaching program early on in your business, you will be able to scale your business more quickly. Here’s why…
1. You can make good money with online coaching
One of the greatest benefits to coaching online is that you can make a livable income with very little clients. I made money coaching with just a handful of people. No huge email list or tons of marketing required. I simply told people about my intuitive abilities and offered to tune in for them. Many people wanted to try a session with me just because they were curious about what would come through. I did a few sessions this way for free because I didn’t know my own worth. After seeing clients transform their lives right before my eyes, I knew what I had to offer was of real value.
2. Your overhead is low
Aside from some marketing costs, your overhead as a coach is very low. You don’t need inventory to coach. You don’t need a location either. Coaching can be done online these days, from the comfort of your home or anywhere you like! If you want to travel and coach, you can do that easily. I used Bluehost to create a WordPress website. I also pay for Zoom to have more reliable online meeting connections. I love that I can send a meeting link by email to my clients and have them join me in an online Zoom meeting room. Of course you will also have internet and cell phone charges, but if you are living a normal life, you most likely already have these expenses. As a coach, you get the bonus of writing these costs off at tax time! Being able to write off expenses from your daily life can help you save money and make money faster. 3. You get a greater understanding of what your clients need
You won’t get far in business without completely understanding your client’s needs. Coaching give you the opportunity to meet with people on a regular basis and learn about their hopes and dreams as well as their challenges.
Think of getting to know your coaching clients as doing your research. Honestly, as a coach, you will never stop doing research. It’s best to have a curious nature and always be trying to figure out your client’s real pain points. Sometimes you think you know what their struggles are until you dig deeper.
4. As you learn what they need, your coaching business grows
The faster you learn what your clients really need, the quicker you will make money coaching online. Your possible program offerings are already validated because you have been listening closely to your coaching clients. And now all you need to do is figure out how you can best solve their pain point.
Publish a few blog posts addressing this major pain point. Make sure they include a call-to-action to sign up for your mailing list in exchange for a helpful freebie.
The freebie does not need to be an e-book or even a free course or email series. I’ve actually had more signups from PDF checklists. Keep things super simple and test out different pain points with various checklists and guides.
Get you first 100 subscribers
Social media and guest posting are the best ways to create traffic to your blog posts. Your aim is to get at least 100 subscribers to opt-in to your email list. If you see people subscribing easily, this is an indication that your message is resonating with your audience.
If you aren’t receiving very many sign-ups, considering tweaking your freebie offer and your content, and test to see if the changes help.
Offer your program to make money coaching online
Once you have built up a list of subscribers, it’s time to outline a coaching program that feels right to you. Head here if you need inspiration about how to create a program that fits your style.
Make sure to make the program details clear. Come up with a set amount of time, the price, and what the program includes. Maybe you will speak to your clients once a week for an hour. Or maybe you will only work with them via text. The possibilities are endless for online coaching.
Post about your offer on social media and send the details out to your email list. In your emails, talk about a particular issue or pain point and then suggest people look at the benefits of your offer.
Continue offering free value in your posts, emails, and social media, and you will slowly develop a following and people will reach out to work with you.
Coaching can allow you to have a sustainable online business
Coaching is one of the best ways to make money online. There is an enormous amount of growth potential because you can keep adding programs and courses over time.
