We are officially flowing into 2021! Something 2020 taught us is that you cannot hold to a firm PLAN for the future! You can try, but things WILL change, and it’s your ability to adapt and keep going that will matter most for your business success. There are definitely some hidden benefits to planning that I’ve found highly valuable. Today I wanted to share my planning process for running a 6 figure business.
Regardless of whether planning “works” the way we want it to or not, I still find that planning helps me to stay highly focused and gives me direction. When I don’t plan, I often feel anxious and scattered. So I thought I would share some of the things I do on a yearly, monthly, and weekly basis to stay organized and plan for success in my business.

Planning process for running a 6 figure business
1. Know your overall yearly goals
Simply put, you need to know what you are aiming for if you are going to ever hit it! When it comes to looking at my yearly goals, one of the very first things I do is write down my income goal for the year. I think of this as my NUMBER, and it helps direct the actions I take in my business to meet that number.
I write this number on my white board, along with the other major personal, business, and lifestyle goals I have for the year. Knowing your lifestyle goals can help you see how you can design a business that aligns and fosters a life you desire to live. When I get really clear about the way I want to live my life, such as having time for daily hikes with my hubby and dog, and having the freedom to work from wherever I want (so we can travel and play in the RV), then life seems way more enjoyable.
2. Know your values and decide what you are offering THIS MONTH
It’s important to know what you value so you can be intentional about your business strategies, processes, and offers. One of my highest values for my life is time freedom, and so I look for ways I can hit my income goals with just a few major offers in my business. Once I know what these offers are, I map them out and decide which ones need to be offered in the current month.
Mapping out and knowing these offers in a clear way helps me feel more confident and ready to show up. With this information, I can break down how much I need to make with each of these offers so I can hit my 6 figure goal. This is one of the simple business processes I teach to my coaching clients to help them feel more aligned and clear about their choices.
3. Plan weekly tasks to stay focused on your business
Deciding ahead of time on what tasks to include in your week can make showing up for your business so much easier. For example, I love using Mondays to go live on Instagram and Facebook to interact with my audience and share new strategies and answer business questions. I use a Trello board to map out topic ideas so I have a bank of ideas to pull from. A weekly spreadsheet like this one helps me stay organized for the week. Feel free to save this template and fill in your own tasks and change the colors!
A few hours of my week are dedicated to lead generation (creating connections with new clients). Lead generation can happen automatically if you set up some simple systems and processes, but I also enjoy using my intuition to share about my current offer. Many times, I’ll get a new topic idea and share it, and then the right person connects with it at the right time. This is why it’s so important to understand that having a plan is important and can keep you on track, but ultimately, you will need to trust your intuition and be flexible with the current times.

Recap of my planning process for a 6 figure business + journal prompts
Here’s a quick recap plus some journal prompts to help you plan out your 6 figure business! You can also download these free journal prompts by clicking here!
- What’s my yearly income goal?
Write this down where you will see it daily, preferably on a white board. Make it a number that feels right to you, stretches you a bit, but also feels do-able. - What lifestyle do I want?
Spend some time with this all-important question. And be realllly honest with yourself about the lifestyle you desire. It’s okay if you are truly wanting a lavish lifestyle!!! AND it’s okay if you are wanting a practical lifestyle. The key is to come up with what feels right to you and journal about it. Once you are done, come up with a word or a few words to describe this lifestyle for yourself and write it on your white board. - My top 3 personal goals for this year are…?
What are 3 personal goals or simple habit changes that you have been feeling called to work on? Write them on your white board as well. - What are 3 areas of my business that I would like to improve or grow?
Do you struggle with putting yourself out there? Are you working on being more organized? What is your sales strategy like? Come up with a few areas where you would like to see improvement by year’s end. Write these ideas down on your white board as well. - What are my top values?
List out a few things that really matter to you. What do you feel compelled to speak about? What are your non-negotiables? What words describe YOU to a tee? Write out as many as you can, and then narrow them down to your top five. Write these 5 top values on your white board. - What 2-3 offers, programs, or products will I focus on this year?
Come up with just 2-3 offers for your business and take some time to map them out. If you are needing more help with this, check out our latest business bundle, 30 Days to Start and Grow Your Online Coaching Business, where we go over how to create an irresistible offer for your particular audience. - Which of these programs feels best to offer RIGHT NOW, THIS MONTH?
Write down the program you feel MOST COMPELLED TO OFFER for the month on your white board. Then map out a plan to repeatedly share about this offer the whole month through. Don’t waver! Don’t give in to your doubts! Offer it and surrender the outcome. Many times, I talk about an offer, and it doesn’t align for the person right then and there. But they follow me for awhile, and then the next time around, they sign up. Stick to your guns and KEEP GOING! - How can I show up weekly so people get to know me and how I can best serve them?
What are your favorite ways to connect with people? What are some EASY ways to create new connections? Some of my favorite ways are going live on social media, joining women-in-business groups, posting a freebie, and hosting a challenge. Write down your weekly tasks to help you stay focused.
